Kidney cancer

Novartis Oncology Nordic asked us to optimize their online potential for the launch of their new blockbuster drug, Afinitor, with initial indication for treating kidney cancer.IMID stands for immune-mediated inflammatory diseases. The IMID Summit for patient organizations needed a way to bring participants together before, during and after the event. We built an extranet, based on Dynamicweb CMS. The extranet means, for example, that users can access information, find out about and sign up for workshops, participate in discussions and learn more about IMID. Our ongoing service includes technical support for the extranet’s users and administrators.

Based on information gathered at our end-user targeted workshops, we created individual websites for Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden. The sites share common goals – to increase disease awareness and to support Scandinavian kidney cancer patients in their search for relevant information – but they are adapted to local needs and country-specific requirements. Each website has an integrated section for medical practitioners where they can find information, for example, about treatments and the latest research. To explain the complex way in which Afinitor works, along with its key component (mTOR), we also designed several intuitive flash and video elements.

The websites are highly optimized for search engines and hold several top-three rankings in Google for popular keywords within the disease area. This has greatly increased visits to the website by patients and healthcare professionals. We also used social media to target users, by creating entries on Wikipedia and Facebook, which in turn increased awareness and boosted traffic to the websites.
